Mon papa qui était mineur me disait souvent que les mineurs se lavaient le dos mutuellement à la sortie de la douche...****************My dad who was a minor often told me that minors washed their backs to each other when they got out of the shower ...
That explains why I have so many pictures like this one in my miners collection.
Beautiful. One of those, "yes it is a bit homoerotic, but also a great male bonding action".
Yes, it's interesting on more than one level.
There was no question of homosexuality in the world of minors. It was just fellowship and brotherhood. It was enough to see the mutual aid they gave each other in times of disaster. They were all brothers ... I am in a good position to know that.
I agree, Albert. I think the homoerotic element comes in to play when we modern types look at them wishfully.
The actor Richard Burton talked about that as well during an interview with Dick Cavett. He then got all passionate on why the Welsh miners had such "beautiful beefy buttocks" (due to the constant bending and standing up); he seemed to really be enjoying the mental image, but Cavett quickly changed the subject.
It seems Burton "had his moments" as they say.
Apparently so. As I was writing that, I remembered that Sir Richard was fond of the bottle. Maybe he had been particularly fond of it that evening.
At 19 I worked one summer at the carbon dock and was my first time to be in a communal shower with men. Black guy next to me said let me wash your back, well that scared the shit out of me but his big calloused soapy hands felt really good. WHen he finished he gave my white bottom a squeeze and then said, “now you do me.” had never touch another man and his big strong back felt so good. He looked down when I finished and noticed a had sprung a woody. He gave me a big toothy smile and said, “I’ll show you how to takeCare Of that later!”
Well, did he?
