This unattributed photo gives Deckman a somewhat angular look.

  1. I'm a big fan of obvious grooming and manscaping of the "golden age" physique/nude models. It doesn't work for the models of the late 60's and 70's with all the long hair and obvious steroids. But for those of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's, this was what we were supposed to aspire to under all of our hair. I'm struck by how mature he's trying to come across with all the product in his flattop and bodybuilder pose to show off his nicely developed arms, shoulders, and chest. I'm also noticing an obvious case of bad acne. Even as a teenager this guy's impressive.

    1. Acne is an occupational hazard of being a teenager, and this picture was likely made early in his modeling career, which began at age 17 according to some sources. I believe those sources based both on his appearance in the photos, and the fact that my research found him living in his own place with a regular job in a grocery store at that age.

  2. You also mentioned he played semi-professional baseball for a few years as well as being independent at 17. Neither of those situations would pay much (semi-pro baseball pays nothing to this day) so a kid thrown out on the street would do pretty much anything for money and food. He found work modeling and in a grocery store which gave him enough freedom to pursue passion for baseball. He sounds like a good guy who worked hard for everything he achieved. Plus he showed us how athletic and attractive he was.

    1. I just found a newspaper clipping from the Associated Press sports division with Mr. Deckman's name in the heading. The short article indicates that Don and two other LA area players were hired by the Cleveland Indians to work for some very low-tier minor league teams, which were named. Somewhat surprisingly, or perhaps not given America's obsession with baseball, Don Deckman's baseball stats are on line at https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=deckma001don . He played three seasons in three locations, and would certainly have been paid something, but given the obscure teams, it wouldn't have been much. Never made the big leagues, alas
