Sculptural Modeling

Mike returned to fine art modeling when he posed for renowned sculptor Avard Fairbanks for two statues.  Above we see "Aaronic Priesthood," a 1956 Mormon religious piece given a place of honor on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.  (I don't know which of the three figures is Mike, but I'm guessing he's one of those kneeling.)  Below are two copies of Fairbanks' "Lycurgus" (King of Sparta) with the left hand version from a museum in Fairbanks, Utah and the right from Sparta, Greece.  Interestingly there is record of Mike himself having been a sculptor, but I can find no photos of his work.

  1. Can't really identify him in any of these statues.

    1. I agree. Perhaps it was his body Fairbanks incorporated.

    2. Ha, yes. from what I can see, like many body builders Mike was clearly a natural as to judging the placement of his body to the best all around aesthetic effect. And what superb raw material for artists to work with. I bet he loved it.
