Danny

It looks like there is a fingerprint over the already obscured crotch area in this photo of Danny Purches.  We'll discuss the visible lighting equipment in the post following this one.

  1. It is interesting to see all the equipment, despite the fact that we can't see the male's equipment.

  2. I wonder if this is the same guy who had a singing career in Great Britain in the 1950s. You can find a video of him on YouTube singing If I've Got The Gypsy In Me.

Both model in this and the singer look similar, I can't say. Handsome fellow.

    2. Update: I found a headshot of Danny the singer and he's wearing the same crucifix. I think that confirms it's the same guy. I'll let you get back to whatever you were doing. Sorry to interrupt. 😁

  3. Chiaramonte- Danny is/was a Romany gypsy. Took a look at the British Pathe newsreels (there are several) he is with his mother and family at a gypsy camp
in Kent, England. He is seen showing his mom a signed recording contract,
then the inside their caravan, and it all seems very charming. If you look at the comments section in one of the videos, someone claims to be a relative.
Also, one of the commenters makes rather despairing remarks about Danny being a gorje (a rom derogatory term for non gypsies).
As far as the photograph goes, it's interesting to see all the lights (at least half a dozen here) that have to be used for a professional shoot. Not like the point n shoot cameras and the flashbulbs that most of us have used.
It just makes you appreciate the work of photographers even more.
As Jerry has said Barrington's technique was sloppy (a mess), but I give Barrington credit for at least trying. And as Jerry has pointed out Barrington has given us some great images.
