Donnie and Terry
Donnie Kay and Terry Hunt posed together for several Troy Saxon pictures, and here they have
their hands in some sort of clasp. Did physique models have a secret double handshake?
Perhaps they did, but I would put this pose down to the influence of the sword and sandals films so prevalent and popular at the time. They nearly always have Romans shaking hands in this way - palm to forearm. I don't know where this misconception came from because we know from both illustrations and the written word that the Roman handshake was just like ours - which I suppose ought properly to be thought of as ours being like the Roman: an open palm demonstrating that you had no weapon.
-austriche
You are correct about Hollywood, and they even pay people supposedly to check for historical accuracy. Then they put off to artistic license when they get it wrong.
Amusant !
Such naming is more common in the South of the USA. My name, Jerry, can be derived from Jerome or Gerald, but my birth certificate says "Jerry." When filling out legal forms, I'm often told to put my actual name, so I have to explain to them that Jerry IS my actual name.
Looks like Donnie is examining the vascularity to Terry's forearm. Wish I could have a look. Two beautiful men!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that, but it sure looks that way now that you mention it.

ReplyDeleteGood point. I had forgotten that popular culture element.
