More fun in the barracks
The Germans seem to have had a lot of barracks hijinks that involved nudity in the 1930s, and they weren't bashful about photographing it. I have at least a dozen such images in my collection.
It has been said that a German sense of humour is no laughing matter but I can't work out what this chap is holding which seems to be the joke. Whatever could it be...
Bang goes that myth about the Germans having no sense of humour. The guy at bottom right seems to laughing at something else than the other guys ... something more at eye level. The guy at the back is really attractive. The photo would be even better if he was naked in the centre of shot.
For me, the most charming thing about this picture is that guy cracking up at lower right. They're all nice looking, in no small part because they're having fun.

ReplyDeleteI was hoping you would know what that thing was. Oh, well.

DeleteIt looks as if the man in the center is holding a dagger or carving knife with some sort of glass container upended on it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think so, too. I just can't figure out its purpose. Vase? Milk bottle?
