John Hammill

John Hammill posed at an early age for Barrington and later publicly regretted it.  At first
glance, I thought that Barrington had perhaps sent his relatively rare color work for
outside processing and thus avoided his usual quality issues.  With a closer look,
however, I found that blotchy area just above John's left armpit.  Oh, well.

  1. Did he pose in the raw? If not, why did he regret posing? Barrington really did do messy work.

    1. Click on his name in the right column - there's a whole explanation in the March 2021 post.

  2. John Hamill did a number of nude photo shoots with Barrington Jerry has published some of these photos previously. He regretted posing nude as he felt it held him back in his later career as an actor. That said he worked on British TV, film and stage for over 20 years but presumably didn't get the big roles that he would have liked. His last TV appearance was in the late 1980s. I'm sure I read that he then opened an antique shop or worked as a furniture restorer.

    1. Peter sums it up pretty well. I also recall the part about antiques and furniture restoration.

  3. His earliest photos, including his earliest nudes, were before he was 18. Legal because no sex was involved, but he regretted them because they impeded his acting career.

Never mind he was only famous because he was willing to get naked in front of a camera.

    1. Mr. Hamill's good looks indeed took him farther than his limited acting talent.

  4. Rupert Smith's biography of Barrington states that he first met Hamill in May 1965 when he was aged 17 and already the holder of several junior bodybuilding titles. Barrington's diary from 12 May records:

At Roehampton pool met a stunning blonde lad, showing off his diving. Annoy his girlfriend by giving him a card. Dream-boy type, ideal for US clients

Hamill posed for his first session with Barrington a couple of weeks later.

Apparently they remained on friendly terms for many years before drifting apart. Among Barrington's papers after his death were "file upon file.of photographs of John Hamill , dating from his earliest bodybuilding triumphs."

    2. Hammill had also done a few stag films. Solos, leather scene, muscle worship with another model. He certainly knew how seduce the camera.
I don't think any of them were done by Barrington.
The films were probably another reason he had difficulty in the legitimate acting profession.
