1940s Fire Island


My usually reliable source said this was on Fire Island in 1940.

  2. From my understanding, it was a rustic bohemian artist’s colony in the 1920’s and 30’s. PaJaMa was one such group to popularize Fire Island.

    1. Right. Seeing as how artistic types usually include a lot of gays, there was a gradual transition from artist colony to gay mecca.
