Robert Mapplethorpe

Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) was one of a generation of edgy new photographic artists who burst onto the scene in the 1970.  He pushed the envelope in almost every way you can think of.  Today, I am featuring some of his early work, starting with this 1972 self portrait.

  2. The Bob Dylan hairstyle. Even the tilt of the head is reminiscent of him. He had colossal influence. I nearly fell over the other week when I found out he was 80!

    1. Doesn't surprise me. He was selling records in the USA before the Beatles dominated the music scene.
