Selfie with Charles
It's said that Robert Mapplethorpe didn't set out to do a selfie with Charles,
but ended up in the picture and liked it that way. From 1974.
This is a very provocative image in that it is irrefutably phallic-centred. I think it works well but I have a feeling that even strapped, it would have attracted unpleasant attention a decade earlier, indicating just how mores were moving by the mid-70s.
