Submarine shower
I think this is a group of German U-boat sailors getting an shower.
The ship's company of a German U-boat didn't wash with soap and water. They would rinse themselves down with a cologne. So much of the stuff was needed that only one of the heads was used at the start of a mission and the others were used to store the bottles. Both men and head must have stunk to high heaven. Refuelling was possible in Axis-friendly ports (Argentina, Canaries) but a boat could stay down and operational for about three weeks. These submariners must have been in very safe waters to take that risk.
They went all over the world, so there were some safe places for this sort of thing. Also, early in the conflict there was even a gap in the North Atlantic where Allied planes couldn't patrol. I read tht once that was closed, things got really bad for the U-boats.
