I hate to be pedantic because there's nothing I dislike more than pedantry, but I've taken a closer look and I think the sandals are more Greek than Roman. I don't know where in Italy this was taken, but never mind, there were Greek colonies all over southern Italy, referred to as Magna Graecia (Greater Greece), so the fantasy still works. And what a fantasy it is.

ReplyDeleteFrom my past research, I've found that most, but not all, of these photos were indeed taken in the old Greek settled areas of the South of Italy.
