Early 20th Century Men
Here's another batch of early 20th Century nude men,
and we start with a well built fellow with a scythe.
The scythe is clearly symbolic, not literal, because a scythe would be terrible for mowing the lawn – it could cut tall, unyielding stalks like a field of wheat, not short blades of grass that would just bend instead of being cut. But symbolic of what? The most obvious reference is the image of Death with a scythe, but that doesn't seem to fit here. Very strange.
Le jardinier désirable dans le jardin
ReplyDeletedes délices terrestres.
That scythe is to let the viewer know that the gardener is very well endowed :)
I have a lawn mower he can use, but I'd insist on shoes-Dee Exx

DeleteThere is something serene and idyllic about this photo. I rather like it.
ReplyDeleteMy art history teacher would say "bucolic."

ReplyDeleteThe grim reaper does come to mind.
DeleteKinda makes you wish you were around in the early 20th century with all these will ing nude men. I certainly wouldn't mind finding him in my garden.
ReplyDeleteTime travel has always been by favorite fantasy.
