Bruce Weber's Bear Pond

Bruce Weber's 1990 book Bear Pond is filled with great photos, not all of which are male nudes.  Some great landscapes are in there along with some nice seminudes.  As the photos for Bear Pond were made in 1989, they just barely make my cutoff for vintage.  Today we look at ten photos from the book, original print run copies of which are now fetching upwards of $500.

 

Nap or yoga

I really like this photo even if I can't tell if the model is sleeping or doing yoga.

 

Looking outward

A rustic cabin, a picnic table, and a naked model make a fine scene.

 

Launching

This model seems to be launching himself from the water.

 

Jason and Christian

Jason and Christian are rolling in the grass at the edge of Bear Pond.

Leaves me thinking they may have had a roll in the hay later.

 

Jason

Here we see Jason with with I think may be a birch tree.

 

Ray, John, and Eric

Ray, John, and Eric are having some splashy fun in the water at Bear Pond.

 

Canoe

I'm not sure, but I think the model is bringing the canoe alongside a dock.

 

Little Bear

Bruce Weber's dog Little Bear makes an appearance with a model my source only knew as Bob.

 

Fern path

I had this picture for years before I knew it was from Bruce Weber's book, Bear Pond.

I like the contrast between the lacy ferns and the rugged young model's body.

The posing strap might cause a little disappointment, but I still 

think this photo of Bruce Schorb and a chain is quite well done.

 

Bruce Weber Day

It's taken me a while to get to the work of Bruce Weber since I expanded the date range for the blog.  I'm saving his iconic Bear Lake series for a later time, but I think you'll enjoy today's offerings.  We start with a model named Dave at Camp Rowdy near Bellport, New York.

 

Paul I

Adirandack State Park was the setting for this photo of a model named Paul from 1988.

Paul will appear again later in todays series at a differnt location.

This striking image was labeled simply "Mike, 1988."

 

1989

We might easily say we'd like to see more of the model in this photo from 1989,

bur for some reason the odd cropping seems to work.

 

Rich

My source says the guy on the swing is Rich Rango from 1986.

 

Billy

This is Billy in another photo from Camp Rowdy.

 

Bounce!

Little Bear the dog and a model are having fun on a trampoline.

The setting looks like Florida to me.
