We visit the early 20th Centtury today, starting with a young man reaching for something.

 

Adrien Deriaz

My source admitted to having brightened this photo of Adrien Deriaz, and I don't blame them.

It was taken in 1915 near the end of Mr. Deriaz' career, and I have to say he still had it.

 

Jim Thorpe

Native American Olympic Champion Jim Thorpe posed for this dual view in 1914.

as a section heading without providing any provenance.

Here we see legandary Czech strong man and wrestler Gustav Fristensky in a classic pose.

I have no information on this shot of a young man pulling on a thin rope.

 

Moser Style

This is one of those photos that reminds me of a Koloman Moser painting.

 

Goo-goos

Mr. Right seems to have a bad case of the goo-goos for Mr. Left,

and Mr. Left just might know about it.

This is Bartolomeo Pagano, an Italian silent movie star who took the stage name

 Maciste from a character he played in one of his early moviesl

 

Early 20th Century

Back to the period of 1900-1925 today, and I'm starting with a puzzler.  Google says 

the frame is for anthropomorphic measurements, but I'm not sure.

 

James and Company

This handsome fellow was photographed by an outfit called James and Company.  

I've only found three other photos by this group, but would love to have more.

 

Walking away

The model here seems to be walking away, but if this was part of a motion study,

I haven't been able to find any other photos from the sequence.

 

Emile Deriaz

Here we see Emile, one of the seven Deriaz Brothers of Switzerland.

He was also know as The Modern Samson.

 

San Francisco

The only info I have on today's twofer is "San Francisco, 1915."

How about some well lighted beef?

I wonder if the asymmetry of the two flanking models was intentional?

 

Quartet

Google says these fellows are French and part of either a military or medical examination.

Either way, a couple of them don't look too happy about being there.

 

Unusual

Although I could do without the fig leaf, I like this unusual picture.
