1970's Men, Part 2 - the Paintings of Sylvia Sleigh

The 1970's work of Sylvia Sleigh is the topic of our Friday art piece.
This is "Robert Lucy in a Grove."

OK, I will freely admit that I don't know if these two images were done with the intent of being a single work of art.  I do know, however, that at lease half of it is called "Denim."

"Sean Pratt, Actor" is all I got for a title on this Sleigh work.

I think this is yet another painting of Paul Rosano, Sleigh's favorite male model,
but I'm not sure because it came with no info.

Sylvia Sleigh called this one "Imperial Nude, Paul Rosano."
The fur factor is nice, but the near bouffant hairdo is a bit much.

Sylvia Sleigh

Sylvia Sleigh (1916-2010) was a Welsh born feminist painter who reversed some gender roles in the 1970's by painting a series of great male nudes.  Today's art series features five of those, but she did some many good ones that I'll be doing some future series in addition to this one.

This Sylvia Sleigh painting is Walter Finley in an Empire Chair from 1975.

The Court of Pan is said to feature several men from Sylvia Sleigh's life, but I can't find a source to identify who they might be.   Oh, there are also a couple of women there.

This Sylvia Sleigh portrait of Allan Robinson uses a more muted
color palette than that she used in most of her male nudes.

Paul Rosano posed for this double image in 1974.  It gives the impression that he
might be looking into a mirror, but on closer examination one notices that he isn't.
And I can't help but wonder if his hair was really that poofy.

This is Portrait of Dennis Adrian from about 1980, and I'm using it to show
how Sleigh put some variety into the body type quotient of her work.
