Horse or man power?

These German troops are pushing an inflatable boat across a river, the horses just seem to be walking alongside.  When asked after the war why Germany lost, one high ranking general said,

"You had a million Dodge trucks, and we had two million horses."

Horse

Horses and ponies have been used in mines for centuries, so I had to include this beautiful horse.  

The expression on the horse's face is quite uncanny, like he's proud to be part of a team.

 

1973

I think this 1973 horse was hoping for a simple walk up and down the beach, but ended up in the ocean instead.  The man looks like he isn't really sure what he's doing, and the horse knows it.

 

Equine rump

Our theme today is men and horses, and we start with an oddly costumed model by Janssen.

 

Snack

Horses like hay, but the model is offering an amount that wouldn't even make a snack.

We get just a peekaboo view from the rear of this farrier

 photographed by Muybridge shoeing a horse.

 

 These are almost certainly soldiers and probably World War I,

but Google Images couldn't pin it down more than that.

Our second Muybridge horse photo in today's set is Clinton the horse cantering with a nude rider.  

For some reason, Muybridge's notes give the horse's name, but not the model's.

A very blonde young man is walking alongside a horse,

and they seem comfortable with one another.

Horses and Men Day

Today's theme is one of my favorites, horses and men.  Yes, I do miss the ranch at times.

We start with a World War II German soldier and his horse taking a break.

The model's hair makes me think it may have been windy when this was shot. \
