Early 20th Century Jockstraps Day

Today's series is another reminder that the jockstrap has been around a very long time.  

The set is early 20th Century, but the noble garment was around even before then.

Our first photo has just a bit of crotch thatch showing if you look carefully.

 

Clenching

I think this guy is clenching both his fists and his glutes.

 

Socks with sandals

This handsome and well built fellow seems to be wearing socks with his gladiator sandals.  

Miss Magnolia Thunderpussy would have something cross to say about that!

 

Harry Paschal

This is Harry Paschall, clipped from the pages of a pulp fitness magazine.

 

Exceptional lighting

This is exceptional lighting for the gladiator sandals strong man era.

 

Skating away

Classical vibe

I get a Classical vibe from this one.  Must be the staff.

 

Interesting straps

The back straps on this one are interesting, and they show off those fine glutes beautifully.

 

Snapshot?

My source said this was a snapshot, and if so, it was a good one.  He seems to have 

turned down the waistband to show a bit more flesh, and I don't mind at all.

 

Boxer?

Our last man in a jockstrap may or may not have been a boxer.

 

Fur Factor 9+

This St. Mary's College Pre-flight School cadet gets a 9+ on my 10 point fur factor scale.

He's not the absolutely hairiest guy around, but what he has is in all my favorite places.

Probably had no clue about how attractive we would find him 80 years on.

All I have on this one is that it's from a piece called Dinner at Eight

 from the January, 1983 edition of Torso.

 

Jockstraps - The Early Days

The jockstrap, likely the most popular article of men's apparel on this blog, has been around in its modern form since the 1870s.  (It can be argued that there were much earlier garments of the same purpose, but they were rather different.)  Today we look at some early modern version from the period of 1900 to about 1920.  We start with a very well built male.

 

White gladiators

So many bodybuilders and strong men wore gladiator sandals 

that some used white ones to stand out from the crowd.

 

Odd weights

The odd barbell arrangement and diagonal pose make this one rather unique.

 

 

Rear view

Although this guy's are OK, the best glutes and back muscles appear later in today's series.

 

Bulge

Nice bulge on this one.

 

Joe Knowles

Joe Knowles was a fraud who mostly faked a survival ordeal in the Maine woods in 1913.  Although he did hike some considerable distance and gather a bit of his own food, he spent most of the time in a cabin with provisions (and his favorite beer) provided by a friend.  The top and bottom photos in this group show him during a post-expedition exam at the Harvard U. gym.

The photo above shows Joe Knowles in what he purported to me the skin of a bear (or bears) that he killed and skinned.  Observers noted bullet holes and signs of commercial processing.  Whatever we may think of his ethics, Joe Knowles was a pretty good looking man.

 

Washed out

I had to include this picture in spite of it being washed out because of the shapely derriere.
