Robert Giard Day

We are overdue for another series on the work of Robert Giard,
and we start with the first of two reclining nudes in the set.

Chris Soller

If my research is correct, Chris Soller (above) was a park ranger at Fire Island
who eventually became the park superintendant before retiring in 2018.

Selfie I

This is from a group of nude and semi-nude self portraits
which Robert Giard took early in his career.

Wicker

This one is called simply Wicker.

Newton McMahon

Artist Newton McMahon posed semi-nude for Robert Giard.
Below, an example of his work called Isabelle's Bottom Three:

Two Bulls

Mr. Giard aptly titled this one Two Bulls.

Reclining II

Our second reclining nude features some interesting
bed linens and an image of eyes on the wall.

Selfie II

Here is another early self portrait by Mr. Giard.

This handsome fellow is Michael Klein.

Robert Giard Day

I only discovered the work of Robert Giard a little over a year ago, but this will be my third series on his work.  I must like it a lot.  Today we start with an example of his earlies male nude works, a group of self portraits in which he never to my knowledge showed his face.

Man at Sink

Man at Sink is from 1979.

Peter Carlson

Robert Giard photographed Peter Carlson with some interesting still life in 1976.  The watermelon is wonderful, and they sold a lot of those shirts that year.  I had one, too.

Man with Marilyn Calendar

I've seen it written that every gay artist gets around to doing a Marilyn Monroe piece sooner or later.  For Robert Giard, it was 1981 and he used her pinup nude calendar as a prop.

Yale Acquisition

Yale University acquired this Robert Giard photo of an unknown model for its collection in 2004.

Hot Tub

We get a peekaboo from Young Man and Hot Tub.

Mysterious

I get a mysterious vibe from Two Men, One Against a Tree, undated.

Sydney Butchkes

Robert Giard photographed Sydney Butchkes in 1976 posed in a chair made of cattle horns.
The Buckhorn Hall of Horns Museum in San Antonio has a huge collection of those.

Man with Posters

This photo from 1981 features a man with some early 20th Century women's fashion posters.

Richard in the Shower

Closing out teh Robert Giard series with Richard in the Shower from 1978.
