Saint Patricks Day, Part One - Assorted Irish-Americans

For Saint Patricks day I have a two parter plus intermission for you.  Part one features Irish-American men and artists, starting with George O'Mara photographed by Chuck Renslow of Kris.

Kenny Mullins

I got this AMG photo of Kenny Mullins from frequent commentator
and contributor Cambria.  Thanks, as always!

Michael Kelly

This untitled 1978 work by Michael Kelly is from the Leslie-Lohman Museum.

Pat O'Hara

Bruce of LA took this photo of Pat O'Hara.

William Muldoon

This is Irish-American champion wrestler William "Bill" Muldoon.
Some body grab the smelling salts.  I think I'm gonna faint.

Bob Cutlass by Ralph Kelly

For our last entry in part one, both the photographer, Ralph Kelly, and the model were Irish-American, .  The model is the always pleasing and often smiling Bob Cutlass.

Saint Patricks Day - Intermission

This is Irish pub owner Butty Sugrue lifting a supposedly full barren of Guiness.  He did a lot of other stunts and appears again at the end of this intermission.  "Butty" is Irish and Yorkshire slang for a butter sandwich.  Mr. Sugrue must have been quite fond of those.

Horace the Irish Hare

Horace the Irish Hare was briefly a celebtity in 1956 when Carl Mydans got some pictures of him into LIFE magazine.  He was the personal pet of the Dublin Zoo director and enjoyed being a house pet.  He was housebroken and would scratch on the kitchen door to get in or out.

Horace would stand on his hind legs for a treat.

Once done with his tricks, he like to relax on a nice wool rug.

Butty II

Here we see Butty a second time.  This time he's hefting a woman and her chair with his teeth.
Butty also did a stunt where tug of war teams of six men tried to pull him apart.

Saint Patricks Day, Part 2 - Men Named Sullivan

Sullivan is a fairly common Irish surname, and all of the men in part two of our Saint Patricks Day series bear it.  We start with Jerry as photographed by Bruce of Los Angeles.

Scott

In the first of two Sullivans by Dave Martin in part two, we see Scott.

John L.

Couldn't do a Sullivan hunk set without one of the last bare knuckles boxers. John L.

Gary

The second Dave Martin photo in part two is Gary Sullivan beside a pond.

Wayne

Our final man named Sullivan is Wayne as photographed by Vulcan.

Olympic Field Medalists

Today we will look at Olympic field event medalists through the decades roughly in chronological order. First up is Irish-born John Flanagan who was already the world record holder in the hammer throw when he emigrated to the USA in 1896.  By 1900 he was eligible for the US Olympic team,
and he won the Gold medal in his chosen sport then and again in 1908 and 1912.  A New York
City policeman, he returned to Ireland and took up farming and coaching after the
1912 Olympics because he was assigned a job that kept him from training.

Fifties Friday, Part 1 - Physique Models

We're having a Fifties double feature today, starting with some physique models.
This is George O'Mara from 1959, said to be by AMG, but doesn't look like it to me.

Jerry

Even fake cowboys need horses, so here we see Jerry Sullivan with one.

Jerry again

Jerry Sullivan makes his second appearance with the horse in this image that I had to restore.
It may have been a color slide, but it was so severely yellowed, that I shifted it to B&W.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

It's all Irish Day here on the blog, and of course it's all male.

David O'Boyle posed for Bob Mizer of AMG a number of times,
but this may be my favorite.
