Britannia I

I came across three photos of mixed gender couples in an American nudist magazine labeled "Britannia!"  They seem to have been made in a walled garden, and trust me, if you're naked in Britain, that's one of the best places to be.  Two more photos follow later in today's set.

It isn't easy to see, but the guy in the very back isn't bashful.
There's also a hint of Larry K's recent piggyback guest series.

Guest Series by Larry K. - Piggyback

Larry K. continues to generously share material with me, and he provided today's piggyback themed series, starting with these World War I British soldiers ferrying men to a boat on their backs.
From this point forward in the series Larry provides the captions with a few notes from me.
(Yes, I've used this photo before, but it fits perfectly here, so enjoy it again.)
Viewer alert!  There's a great movie clip at the end of the series.
These World War II Aussie soldiers in Tarakan, Borneo, 1945,
make an impressive display - a double piggyback times three.

These guys are Australian soldiers playing in a river in 1945.

Editor's note:  Larry provided this as a late addition to today's series for the Bum Brigade.

The winner of a wrestling match in the Nuba tribe in southern Sudan is carried aloft for all to see.
Photographed by George Rodger in 1949.

LIFE photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt recorded these University of Michigan Medical School students taking time out from their studies to play piggyback in the pool in 1950.

This photo has been widely circulated on the internet as a World War II soldier carrying
a donkey across a minefield, but it actually dates from the French-Algerian War in 1958.
The Legionnaires found a starving abandoned donkey colt and carried it to their base
because it was too weak to walk.  No minefield.  They fed the donkey and made
it their mascot, so we have to sympathize with soldiers who couldn't resist a little ass.

This was taken by Bob Mizer in 1960 and features
Derby and Boris Demitroff.  I call it "Ride ‘em Cowboy."

Four guys are playing piggyback in this clip from Bob Mizer's 1965 short film "Seven Athletes."

Editor's note:  Larry provided the names of Brian Idol, Jim Horn, Jim Barkley, and Sam Hunter as being in the film, but not necessarily in this clip.  I definitely recognize Brian here.

Many thanks to Larry for yet another great guest series!
