John Palatinus

John Palatinus is recognized as one of the greats of physique photography
and has had several retrospective gallery shows over the decades.  Frontal nudes
by him are relatively rare, however.  The model here is Chuck Massey.

John Palatinus Day

Bryan B. recently sent me some "new" frontal nudes by John Palatinus, a 1950's photographer whose work I expressed admiration for in a thank you note for another of Bryan's contributions.  As usual, Mr. B. quite promptly sent me some great photos, this one of Jim Tanner among them.  I added several of Bryan's contributions to some of my own collection for today's series.

Bob Ireland

Bob Ireland is meant to appear dockside in this Palatinus photo from 1957.

Don

I think Palatinus was going for a builder's look in this
1958 photo of Don Marcus with a hard hat, ladder, and rope.

Grecian Guild

Grecian Guild Quarterly did an extensive spread of John Palatinus' photos in this edition.
Unfortunately, I don't know the models name, but he looks a bit like Matt Carroll.

Chuck I

This is another of the Palatinus photos generously provided by Bryan B.
The model is Chuck Massey and the photo is from the mid-1950s.

Chuck II

Here we see Chuck Massey again in a promotional piece where his crotch has been crudely marked out.  Quite a few physique photographers did this in the 1940s and 50s, but most of them were more artful, drawing on thongs or posing straps.  Courtny was a trade name Palatinus used.

Jerry

Part of the uniform is missing in this 1958 sailor shot of Jerry Hardy.

Linn

Linn Wickizer looks great in this Palatinus posing strap shot,
despite the less than optimal image quality.

Matt

Until recently all but one of my frontal nudes
by John Palatinus were of this model, Matt Carroll.

Dick

This Palatinus photo of Dick Powers made the back cover of Tomorrow's Man.

John Patatinus took this 1958 picture of Billy Flynn in New York.

John Palatinus of New York got mentioned here earlier this week as a photographer
whose work I wish for more of.  Here is his derrier shot of Jimmy Hale from 1957.

I recently had an informed and helpful viewer, James IV, remind me of the work of John Palatinus, a talented New York photographer.  His fully nude work is hard to find, as James can probably attest, but I did manage to acquire this Palatinus shot of Matt Caroll from the early 1950's.
