St. Mary's

I had to include this one from the World War II St. Mary's College Pre-flight School.

Ledo Road

LIFE photographer Bernard Hoffman must have really liked this fellow he shot washing his truck on the Ledo Road in World War II Burma.  I have at least eight photos from this session.

Korea 1952

This handsome young man was an American soldier in Korea in 1952.

I hope he made it home safe and sound.

Military Men Day

We start today's military theme with a group of World War II German inductees being examined.

Verdun

If my source is correct, these two lucky men were rotated out of the front lines at Verdun in 1916.

They appear to have just finished a bath or a swim, either of which would have been a treat.

Germans after a swim

The handwritten note says these Germans had just finished a swim near Arras, France in 1917.

Americans

This undated photo shows a cropped naked guy and a type of cot widely used

by the U.S. military during World War II.  As a kid growing up, we had

one from Army surplus that was very uncomfortable.

Barracks Hijinks

Our barracks hijinks photo of the day looks French.

German

My source says this is a German.  The wall behind the bunk looks like

the concrete type they used for bunkers or coastal fortifications.

No information

I have no information on this one, but they look like they're having a good time.

Hazy

This one's a hazy mess, but I like the way the soldiers are looking back at us.

Upper right

If you haven't already done so, check out the guy at upper right.

Those caps make me think Tsarist Russian Navy.

103rd Field Artillery

Our last photo is the 103rd Field Artillery of the U.S. Army near Condetz, France in 1918.

A note on the verso says this was "decootie-izing" and not a simple shower.

Soldier

For a little contrast to the preceding in your face photo, we have this soldier and his puppy.

Quintet

And here we have five soldiers in a bed, all nice an cozy.

Note the hand placement at left.

Military Day

Russians

A well curated website says this is a pre-revolution Russian military photo.

It may be recreational as one fellow is holding a sauna birch branch.

Candid Camp

Someone sneaked this candid shot at a military camp.  Must have been summer.

Specific

It's not easy to see, but this guy seems intent on washing a specific part of his body.

The guy in the foreground seems amused by the arrival of the photographer.

Large Group

This large group of soldiers are enjoying a swimming session.
