Von Gloeden Day

Today's series features the work of Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden, the notorious German who photographed a lot of Italians.  We start with a guy standing atop a stone in a corner.

 

No Clue

I have no idea what this fellow is doing, but I like the photo.

 

Ankle Deep

I found this guy ankle deep in water on a poorly curated website, 

but the familiar model tells me that it's by Von Gloeden.

 

Looks Greek

Although I'm certain that the gentleman here is Italian,

the picture has a Greek philosopher vibe.

 

Eyes Closed

I don't know if the closed eyes were intentional,

but this isn't the only instance of such in today's set.

In something of a rarity for Von Gloeden, a name was attached to this photo on a reputable website.  He apparently was Pasquale Stracuzzi

 

Contrast

I find the contrast between these two models to be interesting.

 

Cave

This is one of about half a dozen photos in my Von Gloeden collection

which appear to have been shot in and around a cave entrance.

 

Lanky

Von Gloeded employed two lanky models for this one.

 

That look

Every picture I've seen of this particular model makes 

me think he's looking right into my mind.

Valentine Bouquet

I know the work of Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden isn't everyone's cup of tea,but it does have the weight of history and artistic progress behind it.  Recently, I've seen a number of his works on the resale websites that I hadn't seen before.  Today I'm posting ten of this group,

five of which are duos as we see in the lovely image above.

 

1902

Someone came up with a year for this, 1902.

 

Duo II

Our second duo is having a chat on a lovely terrace.

This is one that I'd really like to see in color.

 

Up or down?

I can't tell if this model is holding up a bunch of flowers

or pulling down the branch of a flowering tree.

 

Duo III

Our third duo are enjoying a quiet moment by a stream.

 

Trio

Technically this is a trio, but it's mostly about the two at right.

 

Duo IV

The guy on the left looks like he just made a proposition,

but Mr. Right is holding out for a better offer.

 

Wrinkles

The paper this was printed on looks like it got wet and wrinkled.
