Forbes
Earle Forbes took this one in 1937, and I love the grin in the middle. Every now and then
I post a photo where I'd really like to meet a guy in it, and this is one of those times.
Trio Day, Part 2 - Poolside
Part two of our double feature consists of trios of men poolside in bathing suits,
some of whom seem affectionate. (Plus, I think they are all amateur snapsots.)
We start with some fellows at Hebron, Maryland in 1932.
Europeans?
Those bathing suits make me think that these guys had to be Europeans.
Perhaps Calorman will come along and enlighten us on their swimwear/
Interesting
I found this one too interesting not to post. We have one guy whose wearing a newspaper pirate hat, another who seems to be posturing, and a partially shaded guy with a hairy chest.

Physique Pictorial, Vol. XIX - Number 1
The Bill D. Collection
I recently had the good fortune and honor to have been gifted an amazing collection of 20th Century physique publications by Bob Mizer of AMG and the Kensington Road marque of Bruce Bellas, aka Bruce of LA. Bill D. of California sent me these magazines and catalogs, and it will take me months or years to even begin to do them justice. I cannot thank Bill enough, and as you will see, his generosity includes some of the biggest names in modeling of the era along with some lesser known men whose work will leave us wishing for more.
I'm beginning the sharing of these with something a bit different. I have scanned a single issue of AMG's Physique Pictorial from 1971 (Volume XIX, No. 1) and will present it exactly as it would have been seen, cover to cover . . . and without comment of my own. Viewers are welcome to comment, as always, and I will join in as appropriate.
I scanned these at sufficient resolution that they can be enlarged. I strongly suggest that you do enlarge them and read the text on the pages. I say this because there is everything there from model bios to political/social commentary to customer complaints to requests for material. (The Metropolitan Community Church and Pat Rocco both get mentioned.) You will notice that in a sense the whole thing is an advertisement for Mizer's stills and movies, products he made more money from than the magazine itself. And remember that these were really small booklets, measuring about 5.5 X 8.25 inches, and not the big glossy mags like Playgirl.
Finally, I need to thank Bill D. for not just his kind gift, but for lifting my spirits at a time when I was feeling burned out and tired of blogging. When I opened that box, I knew I wanted to continue this, and now I have a new direction. Bill, you're the best!

George Platt Lynes
I'm currently trying to make my way through a biography of George Platt Lynes by Allen Ellensweig. I wish I could recommend it, but it is barely readable and gets bogged down in insignificant minutiae while giving minimal time to the topics that most interest me. Anyway, we're overdue for a Lynes series, so here we go, starting with Dick Beard from 1950.
Dream time
Lynes made several photos of models who seem to be dreaming. The light, the glass, the model's expression, and the muted nudity combine to make what I think is a fine picture.
Kinsey
Yes, that's the Alfred Kinsey, America's first sexologist who scandalized post-war America with his frank and graphic descriptions of male (and later female) sexuality. I'm still wading through a ponderous biography of George Platt Lynes that gives prominent mention of his involvement with Kinsey's research. The two had several long interviews, and they were apparently comfortable with each other. Kinsey had sex with a number of his male survey subjects, but so far I haven't found any mention of him having a go at it with Lynes. Lynes did take this rather flattering photo of Kinsey, and he willed his collection of male nude photographs to Kinsey's institute. Despite Kinsey's urging that he do so, Lynes never made an "action" gay porn photos.
Crisscross
I really like this derriere shot of a man somewhat tangled up in some interesting cables . . .
or whatever those were. Lynes did a series of similar photos in the 1940s.
Nude?
This photo came to me labeled "Lynes Nude," but it isn't nude. Oh, well.
It is a nice composition of two different colored males.
Monroe
This photo of Monroe Wheeler on a lounge chair is hard to describe, so I won't. I'll just add that Mr. Wheeler was a highly regarded publisher and museum curator who was in a three way relationship for 10 years with his long term lover Glenway Prescott and George Platt Lynes. To further complicated matters, Wheeler also had a relationship with at least one of Lynes' models. Complicated, eh?
Yul
Yul Brynner famously posed nude for George Platt Lynes before his acting career really took off. This seminude from the same series leaves me wondering if it was cropped or is shown as intended.
1940
Closing the series with a viewer submission that was labeled "1940" with no other information. The style definitely makes me think of Lynes, but the architecture in the background looks later.

70s Porn Stars II
The wide open 1970s gay porn industry produced some iconic stars along with a
number of tragedies, comedies, and some just plain weird stuff. I'm leaving the
descriptions of all the strange goings on for anyone who cares to put them in the
comments, so have at it. We start with Bill Cable, a personal favorite.
Poolside Paul
Google Paul Barresi and learn about his very interesting, and at times almost macabre,
life and career in and out of the LA porn industry.
Hairy Duff
This guy is Duff Paxton, a 70s porn star I had never heard of until putting this series together. His name has to be fake, but it inspires me to ask if anyone has a photo of his duff. I'd like to see it.
Dusky Al
The dusky lighting in this photo of Al Parker looks like it came right out of Playgirl,
but I'm not aware that he ever appeared in that magazine.
