David Hurles of Old Reliable took this photo of Barry Hoffman after he had aged a bit, but was still looking damn good. Drugs and hard living took their toll eventually, however. Sad to see him later.

Old Reliable, only with different sofas
My last Old Reliable series featured photos made on or near a certain infamous sofa. Opinion was divided on whether it should have ended up in the Smithsonian or a biohazard dump. Today we look at some of David Hurles' other furniture choices. We start with a guy whom I didn't know was an Old Reliable model until I posted him on my old tumblr, and several folks wrote in to say he was. Mr. Hurles seems to have put a cover of some sort under him, making me think he was trying to keep his couch clean. Good luck with that, given the model pool he used.

The sofa here is not the one you might think. More about that later today.

Rich and his mullet
This is Rich Wolfgang and his mullet in front of a beige sofa we'll see again later.
Barry Hoffman
This is Barry Hoffman on a dark sofa that doesn't appear in a lot of Old Reliable pictures.
Barry is a bit past his prime here, but not nearly as gaunt as I've seen him.
Dan and his Jockstrap

This is Dan in a slightly dirty looking (imagine that) jockstrap.

John
All my notes say about this guy is that he was "John, aka Black Stud."
I can't tell if the sofa is cream colored or the pattern just bleached out from the flash.
Larry
The sofa here is sometimes mistaken for the notorious one, but it is a different color pattern and has a different shape on the arms and cushions. The model with the ditchdigger tan is Larry.
Rare G-rated
This guy in bright blue pedal pushers in the rare Old Reliable G-rated
photo is unknown, to me at least. The sofa is a very beige number.
Stogie
We can barely see the sofa behind John Benninghoff and his stogie,
but it appears to be the next generation replacemen for the infamous one.
David Biggs
Our final Old Reliable model in today's set is David Biggs,
and he is posed in front of very light colored (leather?) sofa.
That seems posh for David Hurles.

Old Reliable's Notorious Couch
I recently learned that David Hurles, aka Old Reliable, passed away at age 78 on April 12 of this year. Click on his label at right for a previous series and some biographical information. When I posted that set in January, I got a larger than usual number of comments along with several requests for more of his work. Many of those comments mentioned a certain couch that is either iconic or notorious depending on one's point of view. One viewer said it should be in the Smithsonian, but I have a feeling the trash men tagged it as a biohazard when Mr. Hurles left it on the curb. All of today's photos will feature the couch, starting with this cover featuring Palestinian Sam.
Mike B.
Mike B. appears twice in today's series. In this one, David Hurles has wisely provided a large towel to cover the couch seats. I don't know if that was to protect the model or the couch. It would have taken a plastic cover and half a gallon of disinfectant to get me on that thing even with clothes on. Oh, and you'll see several cigars in today's photos, that being a thing with Old Reliable.
Falcon
This guy was called "Falcon" and looks too innocent to be an Old Reliable model.
He does, however, have one feature that Mr. Hurles couldn't resist.
HD?
I have no idea what "HD" means in this photo. Perhaps it's the model's initials.
It surely wasn't high definition based on the quality of the picture.
Ace
Yet another cigar appears in this jockstrap photo of a model called Ace.
I'm sort of surprised that they used what appears to be a clean jock.
