Our last entry is a tattooed man who looks like he knows what the viewer wants.

 

Japanese Tattoo

This tattooed Japanese man was photographed in 1875.

 

Ronaldo

This interesting work is called Ronaldo's Skeleton.

I'd love to know how Ms. Niccolini found this guy.

 

Samoan Tattoos

The man above is a Samoan who was photographed in 1900.  Below is a chart showing the traditioal Samoan tattooing patterns, front and back.  Below that is a 1985 picture of a Samoan man who resided in New Zealand at the time.

 

Tattoo Day

The theme today is heavily tattooed men, and we start with a guy with myriad of images on his skin.  The photographer helpfully provided a measuring stick and photographed him from all sides.

We will get a look at the other three pictures at intervals in today's series.

 

Japanese I

This is the first of two tattooed Japanese men in today's series.

This one looks like mid-20th Century.

 

Carnival Man I

This fellow is a carnival side show performer whom we will see from the rear 

(and without the shorts) later.  I wonder if he gave his audiences an unhindered 

front view during performances.  He probably charged extra for that.  I would.

 

Crowd

I wonder if our subject here knew any of the people depicted on his skin.

 

Headless Guy II

The rear view of our headless model shows about a hundred more individual images.

I'm too lazy to count them all, but I do admire the sheer number of items.

 

Hmmmm . . .

I can just hear the tattoo artist asking this guy, "What should we do with your butt cheeks?"

"Oh, I dunno.  How about sad and happy men in the moon?"

"Perfect!"

This is supposed to be an original hand colored print from about 1890.

Maybe he wasn't finished when this photo was made.

I see some bare skin yet to be filled.

This is the rear view of the carnival side show performer from earlier in today's set.

I much prefer this version for obvious reasons.

 

Headless Guy IV

The fourth iteration of our headless model at least has half a head,

which I suppos is better than nont at all.

 

Crazy Guy

Our last tattooed beauty is a crazy guy who looks like he's standing in a shower stall.

 

Sandi Fellman

Sandi Fellman took this photo of two men with Japanese tattoos in 1986.

 

1980s?

This was supposed to have been made in the 1980s, but weren't full sleve tattoos 

relatively rare in those days?  Also rare are derriere shots by Vivienne Maricevic.  

She almost always went full frontal with her male nudes.

 

Blonde

This Weinberger blonde shows us that unfinished and 

jailhouse tattoos are not a strictly American thing.

 

Rare

Weinberger doesn't seem to have done much work in color, but this one is nice.
