Western Photography Guild Day

Although I've posted quite a few stray shots, mostly color, by Western Photography Guild in the past few months, it's been a disgracefully long time since I did a full series.  Today we will look 

at some of Don Whitman's black and white work, and I can think of no better place 

to start than with the always impressive Marc Arno.

 

Steve Anthony

The frou-frou decor in this photo do not at all match the masculine visage of Steve Anthony.

If any of you hear heavy breathing, don't worry.  It's only Albert, and he'll be fine.

 

Mark Sutton

We get a very winning smile from Mark Sutton in this 1975 photo.

 

George Hughes

Don Whitman, the genius photographer behind Western Photography Guild was by all accounts a mild mannered and vanilla sort of guy.  He did not, however, flinch at getting into some bondage

themed work.  This shot of George Hughes is the first of two in today's series.

 

Eddie Williams

Eddie Williams is one of my favorite WPG models, and based on the sheer number 

of photos taken of him, he must also have been one of Don Whitman's.

 

Barry Craig

I hope they had a hidden pad under Barry Craig when they shot this photo on a rough rock.

I've seen his name spelled both Craig and Graig, btw.

 

Darryl French

Being tied up doesn't seem to upset Darryl French at all.

 

Paul Labriola

Paul Labriola posed on some stairs for this one.

 

Frank Zeuch

Don Whitman scrupulously adhered to the laws prior to liberalization, resulting in a number 

of posing strap photos in his portfolio.  This one of Frank Zeuch is a personal favorite.

I hope that someone out there knows the name of our last WPG model.

Here's hoping there are more photos of him out there somewhere.

Don Whitman of WPG was more meticulous than most physique photographers 

about recording the names of his models.  This one, however, is an exception.

 

Marc Arno

Don Whitman's photographic artistry, that great western setting, and a fine 

model combined to make this amazing WPG image of Marc Arno.
