Jack Lalanne

Although my source did not have a photographer attribution, I'm fairly sure this is by Russ Warner.
Mr. Lalanne is said to have rounded up all and destroyed all his nude work except for that of Mr.
Warner, who refused to hand over the negatives.  Somehow I managed not to post this one until now, but I did get in a shot of Mr. Lalanne and Jack Thomas together earlier this week.

1949 - Bob McCune

1949 was one of several years in which there was both a professional and amateur winner of Mr. America.  Bob McCune won the pro version that year, appearing not long after on the cover of Strength and Health above.  We have a rare frontal nude of Mr. McCune below by Russ Warner.

1951 - Roy Hilligen

Born in California in 1922, Roy Hilligen's family moved him to South Africa at age four.  He grew up in an orphanage there after his father died, and he took up bodybuilding after recovery from a fall left him weighing only 85 pounds at age 17.  One thing led to another, and he became a title holder in South Africa before moving to Oakland to train for the 1951 Mr. America contest, which he won. Mr. Hilligen continued winning titles into the 1970s when he was 54.  Shown above on the cover of Reg Park's magazine Muscleman, he is nude below in a famous Russ Warner photo spread.

1961 - Ray Routledge

Ray Routledge made the cover of this British magazine after winning the 1961 Mr. American title.
He had already been around the bodybuilding and modeling scenes for quite some time,
however, as witnessed by the much younger photo below by Russ Warner.

Russ Warner Day

I've been trying to get a full series of each of my favorite physique photographers on here at least quarterly.  While I've been partially successful, I just realized that I had neglected Russ Warner for a very long time.  The correction for that starts with this shot of Ed Siemens.

Clarence Ross

Having been a moderately successful competive bodybuilder himself, Russ Warner had no problem getting some of the best in that business to pose for him.  He would sometimes take off his own clothes and work nude in an effort to get his models to feel more comfortable posing naked.  This was only partially successful with Clarence Ross shown above.  Although we have one or two derriere shots of him, there are no frontals that I know of.  Still, he looks great.

Neel Bate

Although he was ultimately better known as an edgy gay themed artist,
Neel Bate did a stint as a physique model, as shown here.

John Smith

We get a fine displaty of muscles in this Russ Warner photo of John Smith.  Whether that was his actual name or a pseudonym, somebody lacked imagination in the selection of it.

Johnnie and Dick

Johnnie Holden and Dick Fenley look impressive stacked on a California beach.
