Hermann Heid

This photo is attributed by a European university library to Hermann Heid.  I've seen the same model in some photos by Louis Igout, but such personnel overlaps are not at all unheard of.

19th Century, Part 1 - Mixed Lot

Part one of today's 19th Century series is a mixed bag of mostly semi-nudes.
Hermann Heid took this photo of a guy in striped shorts, something I swoon over.

A different view this time

Hermann Heid took this picture of a strong man, a different photo
of whom I posted several weeks ago.  This time we see him from the rear.

I've posted photos by Hermann Heid of this late 19th C. bodybuilder before, but this
"new" one is sort of special.  First, we can see the lines an artist drew to help with
enlarging the image for a drawing or painting.  Second, a name is given, Schulz.
Also, he's the only Heid model I've come across who didn't pose nude.

Hermann Heid

These wrestlers are a rather blurry stray left over from a previous Hermann Heid set.

Hermann had good taste

Hermann Heid took this derriere photo of a beefy model in the 1880s.

Heid

You've seen these two before in other poses from a remarkable series that I've seen
attributed to both Louis Igout and Hermann Heid.  I found this one in a European
university archive listed as Heid's, so I'm going with that . . . this time.
Disclosure:  I brightened this and sharpened it to make it more viewable.

Inset no help

This photo has the catalog code inset that the jumble of Igout and Heid photos in the artists' study album all have.  There being no key or decipherable pattern to those insets, they don't help.

Heid . . . probably

I've seem more attributions of this picture to Heid, so I'm going with that.
But I could be wrong.  I've been wrong before.

Take your pick

Igout and Heid have both been credited with this one, so take your pick.

Heid Goes Horizontal

Hermann Heid was a 19th C. Austrian photographer who worked for a time in Paris and had
a number of his male and female nude photographic studies published in a bound album along
with works by Igout.  A problem of sorts has arisen over which photographer produced which
photos because not only did the publisher not differentiate or credit either of the two, but they
used some of the same models, studio settings, and style.  Oh, well.  Today we look at some
works supposedly by Heid in which he shows his penchant for photographing models in
various horizontal or near  horizontal positions.  We start with this duo featuring a
personal favorite burly model with curly hair.

This may be yet another example of the "Dying Gaul" motif . . .
or it could be something else entirely.

Heid's models weren't always exceptional specimens, but they did have nice bodies.

This may be the first recorded incidence of the "Hook 'em Horns" gesture,
and like the U of Texas football team of late, he's flat on his ass.

OK, I know he looks contorted, but there's something appealing about those brawny muscles.

Herman Heid is generally given as the photographer for this reclining nude taken from the rear.

Someone recently commented that one of my angst-ridden models looked like Theda Bara.
This Heid study will no doubt rank a close second place.

This was Hermann Heid's take on a stance used by Marconi, Igout, and probably others.
After all this time, I haven't figured out what it means, but it looks like he's hailing a taxi.
