Fred Regan
Lon's staging skill is on full display in this photo of Fred Regan.
The settee almost seamlessly fades into the background,
and the lighting makes Fred seem like he's floating.

I like your description of his "floating." It fits perfectly. Heavy on the oil, eh?
Really is so well done and he does seem to be floating and looking down.
Black velvet, or any dark color (for black and white photography) can achieve this effect.
Maybe he was floating in oil? Sorry, I couldn't help that. Let me add that this is a case where I don't find heavy olling objectionable.

It does have that effect of floating or moving through time and space. Fred looks heavenly too!
