  1. I have several photographs of Mr. Dureau's work. My partner of many years who passed in 2018 of cancer lived in New Orleans for over 30 years. He owned a "gift" store for many years called Gaymart. Mr Dureau gifted him several numbered photos over the years and I think Tom even sold some of his work through Gaymart. I wish I knew who to contact to have them looked at by a professional.

    1. Dee's advice below is good, and you might also do some online searches for outlets selling Mr. Dureau's work. Being numbered usually indicates that an item is one of a limited set of copies, and that means there are likely others out there. You could even try making a digital copy and doing image searches via Google Images, Bing, or Yandex. Good luck, and I'm sorry for the loss of your partner.

  2. Try the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and/or the New Orleans Museum of Art. They both have several Dureau works.PS I remember Gaymart-Dee Exx

  3. Dureau, un cadeau de La Nouvelle-Orléans :)
New Orleans is one of my favorite cities to visit in America, such storied ambiance and French influence.

  4. Seems like Black men were hardly ever models, but I'm presuming that's changed in modern times?

    1. Well, they appeared in French art as early as 1800 and in photos around 1860. They did not become widespread, however, until the middle of the 20th Cenntury when some pioneering American photographers featured them.
