Art
Closing the set with a quickly made Lalaing study that has artistic appeal on two levels.
First, the lighting is subtle but effective, and second, the model's pose is pure art itself.
His sculptures are sublime and these photos are extraordinary. A surreal quality that is almost timeless. His Waterloo Memorial at the Brussels Cemetery is splendid.
Thanks for an interesting series! Lalaing clearly had wonderful taste in his male models, but also, his poses accentuated the muscularity. HARD to hold for the models, but great results. 🥰
The pose is remarkable, and must have been difficult to hold.
ReplyDeleteSome artists of that era used photographs to save money, but given Lalaing's well to do background, I think he used them to capture difficult poses.
DeleteIt is utterly beautiful. Perhaps it's just me, but on attempting, the "killer" bit is the head position.
DeleteIt's not just you, David.
DeleteI saw this one a few years ago. I think I managed 15 minutes..
DeleteMy favorite of the day
ReplyDeleteSans doute influencé par son contemporain Auguste Rodin.

ReplyDeleteI've only seen photos of his work. Hopefully, someday in person.
