George Dureau Day

George Dureau was one of the finest artists to ever come out of New Orleans, and it's been
far too long since I featured his work here.  We start with Aaron Davis from 1985.

  1. I first became aware of him from the film The Big Easy where he had a small part, a friend told me about his art and photography. I've been a fan ever since.

    1. I lived a few blocks from him for two years, and didn't even know who he was until decades later. I do remember some interesting characters hanging out in that block of Bienville Street, but I have no idea if they were connected to him. "interesting characters" is sort a widespread thing in the French Quarter.

    2. Wow, that close! I know the area, you could park yourself and watch the "interesting characters" all day. No room for boredom there!

    3. I've heard it called "the world's largest open air insane assylum."
