And finally, another stunning slide

Our last color Western Photography Guild shot of the day is a slide that approaches
perfection.  The sky, the pine tree, the dead stump, and a beautifully proportioned
and positioned unknown model all combine to make a superlative image.
Don Whitman was a genius photographer and a very decent human being.

  1. In addition, the lighting beautifully emphasizes the model against the background. He glows.

  2. I have to agree, Jerry, that this approaches perfection. Yes, Don Whitman was a genius photographer and it's nice to know that he was a good man too. Looking back at an earlier series you mentioned that quite a number of his models attended his funeral, some of them with their wives and children, which I found really touching.

  4. Don Whitman was THE master of outdoor physique photography.
    The color photos superb.
To think of him just using a manual camera (unlike the modern digital cameras of today) and all the steps needed to get his results.
The settings for proper apeture and speed, the focal plane and point.
The lighting (though helped by the sun, he still had to figure out what time to photograph in what seasons to get the best results).
Not to mention which lens and camera to use.
And not least, also finding and approaching men who would be willing to pose for him.

  5. Breathtaking. Breathtakingly beautiful, man in nature, it doesn't get any better than that. Whitman was the BEST in outdoor nude physique photography bar none. The blue sky, the trees and the nude male as one in nature, as you say superlative. Thank you for this gift, you have the golden eye of appreciation...:)
