Army Shower

Mike K. of Grand Junction, Colorado sent me this one, and all he knew about it was that it was an army shower.  It looks like a World War I U.S. Army Signal Corp photo, but lacks their watermark.

  1. A buddy of mine who was in Iraq for the first invasion said even a shower like this was a wonderful luxury.

    1. If you ask a veteran of any war since 1914, they'll tell you the same.

  2. I would hazard that this was early in the US participation in the war. These young men are clearly very well fed, fit and their faces show no sign of fatigue. I always marvelled as to how the young men of my own generation looked at the same age as our parent's and grandparent's generation. It was because we had not had the rigors and horrors of war to age us in our youth.

    1. The poor folks who endured WWII (my parents' generation) also were just coming out of the Great Depression, so they got a double whammy.

  3. My grandad's dog tags from WWI were round, and my Uncle's dog tags from WWII were oval....

  4. It's from the National Archives, dated 1917-1918 and labeled "Shower baths, delousing stations." See https://catalog.archives.gov/id/45499186
