Brian Hatton
The very talented English artist Brian Hatton was tragically killed in action in 1916 during
World War I. He painted this lovely rear view of a male nude in 1906 at age 19.
Very nice. A sort of sheen on the back musculature. Getting as comfortable as possible. Weight on left buttock, right foot braced around chair leg, braced arms against the twist of the back...well posed sir..

ReplyDeleteSad truth.
DeleteI love the quiet simplicity of this. It was a privilege to view a large selection of his work many years ago. A talent gone far too soon.
ReplyDeleteOne of millions of wasted lives. I remember seeing a painting of his that depicted a young farmer and two magnificent draft horses. Beautiful.
