Shack Wall
This one intrigues me. For some reason, a very good looking man posed
nude against the wall of what appears to be a weatherbeaten shack.
This is a camp counselor at Camp Kenan, a summer camp for boys in New Hampshire. He had just come from the showers. It is one of the first nude photos that Lon Hanagan, aka "Lon of New York", ever took. Apparently his knack for getting men to pose nude for him started very early. According to the book "The Male Ideal", Lon took several photos of this guy, and photos of other campers, while he was there as a adolescent. He also learned how to develop his own photos while attending the camp.
I remember seeing this photo. The camp reference triggered the memory, I think you posted this one Jerry quite awhile back. Regardless I like viewing it again, I would have enjoyed my time at this camp! Lol.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, Lon was born in December of 1911, so this likely would have been taken in the very early 1920's.

ReplyDeleteYes, I checked, and I did post this. That sort of nudity was quite ordinary at that time, but photographing it would have been a bit of a stretch.
