Stanley Stellar

One of the things I like most about doing this blog is that I often find "new" photographers while doing research for topical themes.  That happened again recently when I was doing a series on The Piers of the West Village, and several excellent photos by Stanley Stellar showed up.  That led me to a wealth of material on line and a quick and deep respect for Mr. Stellar's work.  As I discovered and you will see, he was not obsessed with in your face genitalia like some of his peers, but he still conveys impactful sexuality. The photo above was made in 1981 by Peter Hujar at The Piers.

For a change of pace, I am only giving model names and dates (when known) 

and not writing captions for today's set.  I'm asking you viewers to do it in the comments,

and I will reply.  There are some subtle and not so subtle elements that you may 

enjoy more if you find them for yourselves.

MIddle Aged Nudists

If you've noticed an uptick in the amount of nudist offerings on the blog lately, it's because of two things.  First, I have so many nudist pictures, I could probably do the whole blog with them and not run out.  Second, if there's any ordinary activity or type of man you can think of, there are photos of nudists to fit the description.  Today it's middle aged guys, starting with this fellow who apparently ran charm classes for nudist females, although you couldn't tell it from this picture.

 

Torch

Those oil fired torches have been around a long time.

 

Tennis

Tennis was popular at 60s nudist gatherings, but not nearly as much as volleyball.

 

Pageant Pose

And here we have the inevitable nudist beauty pageant pose.

 

Australian

This Australian is enjoying a cuppa at a trailer campground.  Those cute little trailers were 

the predecessors to the RV or motor home.  More on that general subject later today.

 

Pool

It wasn't me who cropped this one.  The photographers and editors at the 1960s nudist magazines made sure to get the females in the picture in their entirety and in a flattering pose.  The men?  

Not so much.  They were lucky to get some space off to the side . . . if they were there at all.

 

Leering

"Leering" is the only work I can find to describe this guy who is helping a girl lift a barbell.  

I cropped her out of the photo because she was too much even for my high tolerance level.

Now that I've said that, somebody will probably ask to see her.

 

Dark glasses

I had a pair of shoes like those when I was 13.  The sunglasses 

would probably fetch a pretty penny in a retro shop.

 

Lanky at the seaside

I can't tell if this picture of a lanky middle aged fellow was made on a boat or a dock.
