Muybridge Single Panels Day
Today we are going to look at some individual frames from Eadweard Muybridge's
groundbreaking motion study photos. We start with this man with a scythe.
Looks just like a Chinese mandarin cap. When I was a kid we used to eat at a Chinese restaurant owned by a family that fled from Manchuria in 1946. Their elderly grandfather wore that type hat. When we ate there he was convinced I was Eurasian and always made sure we got extra food. Typically we would get egg rolls, egg flower soup, fried rice, chicken chow mein and sweet and sour pork. The grandfather would give us a special shrimp dish and a soup prepared for himself by his cooks at no extra cost !….:)
Interesting headgear.

Now you've got me wanting Chinese.
DeleteThis is from Plate 391, Farmer Mowing Grass. The model is #41 but I have no other info on him.
ReplyDeleteI think he's wearing a tasselled smoking cap. Worn to reduce tobacco smells on the hair. They also look great. Yes, I have one...
ReplyDeleteWow, that's interesting!
DeleteI've worn it for a few life modelling sittings.
