Trio

I think the fellow at the center of this trio is a young Henri Brancaccio.

  1. This is the info I found---French weightlifter Ernest Cadine (1893–1978) alongside Henri Brancaccio and Ange Camilli, celebrating their first-place win in a plastic beauty contest in France-1920

    1. Thank you, Dart! All three were championship level bodybuilders, so the winning lineup makes perfect sense.

  2. My sources agree with the 3 names given by Dart above. However, all my sources indicate the order as follows (left-to-right): Henri Brancaccio, Ernest Cadine and Ange Camille. The situation was a bodybuilding contest in France in 1920, and these 3 were the top finalists, or perhaps the top winners if I understand the french correctly.

There is another photo of this same contest, of the top 10 runners up. Check out https://lecomptoirdetitam.wordpress.com/2016/09/29/concours-de-beaute-plastique-1920/les_10_premiers_du_concours_-agence_rol_btv1b53036733f/

In this photo, Brancaccio is 2nd from the left, Cadine is 5th from the left, and Camilli is 6th.

Eleven years earlier, Brancaccio made the cover of "La Culture Physique", edition 15 Sept 1909:

And again on the cover of the 1 Sept 1913 edition:

I couldn't find any biographical info, including date of birth. In any case, apparently he made the rounds like his fellow competitors Cadine and Camilli. For very, very good reason.

  3. Cadine avec un fessier bien galbé :)
Physical culture developed in France after the losses of the Franco-Prussian War.
It was felt the men of France were out of shape, and the military needed to focus on physical education to create stronger soldiers.
