Leave it to Bob to find this excellent photo of William Ritter that I borrowed a few years ago.
Bob, if you see this, please know I wish you the best.
The best for last ! Physique photography as art. The brothers Ritter were true pioneers in physique photography. Wonder if they ever corresponded with those other pioneers like Gebbe, Forbes, Melan, Lon or Townsend….:) - Bob, we need ya back ! :-)
The Ritter brothers were such pioneers that they were role models for other photographers. Having said that, I can't help but think they were at least influenced by people like Earle Forbes and Edwin Townsend, Also, Al Urban and Lon of New York were both active at the same time in the same area. Whether they corresponded or even knwe each other is not something I know. I'd like to think so, but I haven't seen any proof.
There's a good chance brother Fred took it. Although G.P. Lynes did photograph the brothers, they were almost always together indoors. The two outdoor shots I have by Lynes both show the pair.
